Achieve Balance and Flexibility in the post ECM era

It's no secret that keeping up with the volume and complexities of content has become a struggle for enterprises today. Since the dawn of the internet, accessing content has become increasingly easier and the workforce is becoming more mobile.  As a result, organizations have been forced to look for better ways to manage the growing number and variety of content assets to deliver information when and where it is needed. To add to the challenge, regulation continues to become more complex and meeting compliance and security protocols can be daunting.

More than 40% of business users report that multi-channel inbound content capture and management systems are ad-hoc within their organization and that it is a struggle to match on-premise and cloud content. Additionally, 32% report that capturing and processing content is done on-premise and then moved to the cloud. As a result, some 30% are seeing a rise in the use of unofficial cloud content management within their company. Not only is this shadow IT a headache to manage, but it can also expose an organization to stiff fines when critical pieces of the compliance puzzle are missed.

Organizations must take the proper measures to understand what content they have, how and where it’s stored, and which policies apply around viewing and access. Having the peace of mind that content is being managed effectively is hugely important, and doing so doesn't have to be resource intensive.

While solutions of the past required an enterprise to spend months consolidating content across siloed repositories into one location, that's not necessary today. Instead, modern enterprises leverage content services to manage assets across multiple content repositories, whether in the cloud or on-premise, and keep that information filed in its native form while still making it easily accessible. By providing controlled access and integrating content from any device, anywhere, these solutions break down the repository walls created by proprietary systems and allow content to be stored in public and private clouds, on-premise and hybrid environments for greater flexibility and savings.

The reality is that today's workforce is mobile – from partners and customers to an organization's own employee base -  there needs to be easy access to content from anywhere so data is where and when the user expects it to be. At the same time, the regulatory environment continues to become more complex and its dynamic nature means that processes must be put in place to effectively ensure compliance and business success.

Enterprises wanting to tackle the challenge that content presents today must determine how to manage assets across applications without losing control, and the architecture of a content services solution can help ease that burden. To survive, businesses must learn how to balance the scales of mobility and workflow with regulations and multiple environments. Flexible deployment of content can support legacy systems. With a flexible content solution, modern enterprises can get accurate information on every device while staying within the growing demands of regulation.
