Research and Development Organization Implements ASG-Zena™ to Extend Business Process Automation Initiatives

The forward-thinking IT staff of an R&D organization for a leading global science and technology company sought the ability to better manage and automate their already advanced business processes, which incorporated Web Services, COM objects, and other emerging technologies. They required a next-generation solution that could provide true business automation capabilities across the enterprise. However, their IT environment was heterogeneous and incorporated diverse applications and solutions (some "home-grown"), and the automation of business processes had to transcend the boundaries of date-, time-, and event-based tasks and processes.
The Business Challenge
Operating under policies mandating business-focused IT development and faced with the constant
challenge of implementing new technologies to drive business and budgetary improvements, the IT
staff at a research and development organization required cutting-edge software solutions to bolster
its already significant and advanced business process automation initiatives.
Additionally, beyond traditional scheduling and automation initiatives, the organization implemented "home-grown" automation solutions to streamline workload management activities. Whenever possible, the IT staff utilized rules-based calendars rather than managing lists requiring constant updates. Finally, the company wanted to automate event-driven tasks, or those in which a scheduled process is not appropriate.
The Solution
The IT staff’s search for a next-generation solution consisted of a paper study of more than a dozen
scheduling and process automation products. Of those, ASG-Zena
offered the most promising and
comprehensive solution for the organization’s existing needs and future plans because it facilitates
end-to-end workload management and other IT operations, applications integration, and advanced

technologies such as .NET, Web Services, WebSphere, and J2EE.
Immediately, ASG-Zena proved that it could accommodate the organization’s existing needs through the replacement of the existing solution. This process was made simple by way of ASGZena’s XML import capabilities, which immediately implemented existing automation rules and got ASG-Zena up and running with minimal tweaking of the XML definitions.
With a streamlined, efficient, and risk-free conversion process, the organization and its IT staff immediately began to leverage ASG-Zena and its intuitive user interface to drive additional business process automation efficiencies across the entire environment.
Measurable Results
The IT staff was able to quickly replace external scripts and manual tasks and take their automation
efforts to the next level, resulting in improved efficiency. Also, due to ASG-Zena’s rules-based calendaring
capabilities, the IT staff no longer had to manually update more than 60 individual calendars, thus
streamlining the time required for this task, eliminating errors, and reducing staff effort.
