The Challenge
Sterling Fluid Systems, a subsidiary of a global engineering firm specializing
in pumps, vacuum technology, engineered systems, water treatment, and valves,
wanted to upgrade their System 36 IBM Manufacturing, Accounting, and Production
Information Control System (MAPICS) to an application that tracked their entire
manufacturing process. After extensive product research, they chose Computer
Associates's MK7 package for their NT system and the companion product of
ASG-Safari InfoTools™ for all of their reporting needs.
The Solution
Sterling Fluid wanted a tool for mining the data concealed in the MK7 system.
ASG-Safari ReportWriter™, the only desktop tool with complete server access and full
report writing capabilities regardless of operating system, file structure, hardware
platform, or database design, armed them with specific technology for analyzing data
and detecting operational patterns. With the tool's user-friendly interface, Sterling
Fluid's 25 end-users embraced Safari ReportWriter, creating, editing, and printing
their own reports without difficulty.
Measurable Results
Sterling Fluid's other departments quickly joined the ranks of Safari ReportWriter
users. The sales and accounting departments used this tool to create critical internal
reports for sales orders, commissions, revenue, backlog, and reconciliation. The
engineering departments used Safari ReportWriter to track industrial engineering
parts in technical drawings; the purchasing department used it to track their
operations.
With the success of Safari ReportWriter, Sterling Fluid is ready to expand their
toolbox, adding Safari Administrator™ for table creation and view capabilities
and DataViewer™ for quick data queries. The Safari solutions maximize Sterling
Fluid's MK7 investment and allow employees to spend more time on mission critical
projects.
